SUNSHINE NOTES
December 17, 2008  

How blessed our Boyd Buchanan Elementary family is! God has allowed you to fill boxes of school supplies for the Djibouti, Africa, schools. Your precious children create a daily, vibrant learning community. Their talent, skill, and big smiles warmed our hearts with two holiday presentations. Our parents are devoted to nurturing and loving their Godly families. TOGETHER we make Boyd Buchanan School a rare and special place!
 

Students will resume classes on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. The teachers will have a day of in – service on Monday, January 5, 2009.

Jeff and Debbie Poe would like to thank everyone for making Bucfest a huge success! We could not have done it without the help of our parents, teachers and students. A special thanks to Stacy and Kim Morrison, Rebecca Ziegler, Sheri Waterhouse, Barry and Paige Rogers, D'lon Parker, Rose Crayton, Wendy Baubach, Jackie Pickett, Barb Parker, Julie Mathis and Mrs. Maddux. It was a fun day for the entire family!

Merry Christmas from the Parent Council!

Our “Arms Across Africa” mailing fund has been greatly aided by an elementary Book Swap. Mackenna Hood, Sierra Ross, and Carmen Ross spearheaded a successful elementary book swap on Friday, December 12. About $375.00 was raised for this effort. Thank you to these girls and their Moms for a wonderful experience!
We are proud of our Chattanooga Girls Choir and Nutcracker performers! The Nutcracker Performers were: Christina Amos, performing at Dalton High School; May Hartness & Julie Clevenger performing at UTC. Kadie Cooper, Ashlyn Cribbs, Kathleen Dupree, Tate Gardenhire, and Ashley Rose Lynn performed at the Tivoli. Our Chattanooga Girls Choir members are Madeline Bales, Abbie Cribbs, May Hartness, and Kendall Tarpley.

A special thanks to the Parent Council who provided free nutritional snacks during break on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of exam weeks.

The Alpha Delta Girls’ Service Club would like to thank all those that participated in the “Share Your Christmas” food drive.  The final total was 3,750 pounds!

Senior Announcements: Any senior who has not made his/her final payment for Disney should see Mrs. Hood immediately. All seniors going on the Disney trip must turn in their notarized medical form to Mrs. Hood by January 9.

Band & Chorus News: All Coke crates are to be turned in as soon as possible.

Guidance Department Reminders: Seniors: Please update the guidance office of all college acceptance letters you receive and scholarship money awarded. The FASFA is not available until January 1, 2009, and needs to be completed by March 1 for many financial aid opportunities.
All juniors need to take the ACT or SAT in spring 2009. The February ACT will be administered at BBS. Students hoping to take the February test at BBS need to complete their early registration by January 4 at www.actstudent.org
Second semester class change request forms are located in the front office and outside of the guidance office. Please fill out the green form with the class you would like to change and have a parent sign the orange sheet prior to turning it in. No changes will be made until after the break.

REMINDER: The second semester payment for the Semester Meal Plan (Grades 6-12) is due Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Students may present a check to the Cafeteria Manager. Make the check payable to Boyd-Buchanan School in the amount of $465 for Grades 6-8 and $475.00 for Grades 9-12.

Admissions’ News Applications are now being accepted for the 2009-2010 school year. Please give the names and addresses of prospective students to the Admissions Office at 629-7610.
The next test date for admission of new students is February 7. The test is scheduled for 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and will be administered in the library.
The Educational Expo is January 31 at the Trade Center from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

FEBRUARY 27, 2009! BBS Secondary Parent Council will be hosting a wonderful fundraiser to benefit BBS students. Mark your calendar for an evening of fun on the riverfront with all your BBS friends. Watch for more details!

Secondary Parent Council (SPC) News:
There will be NO Secondary Parent Council "Bucfeast at McAlister's” for the month of December. We will start the New Year off with a Monday/Tuesday event on January 12 and 13. See you there!!
