Sunshine Notes
September 1, 2010
Our elementary halls and classrooms are once again filled with the sights and sounds of exciting learning journeys. The fifth graders were hovered over microscopes today as they examined representations of scientific kingdoms. Pre-kindergarten classrooms display graphs that reflect child-generated data while third graders are constructing large continents for their geography pursuits. Animal studies are a focus for first graders. Fourth graders are finishing Charlotte’s Web and honing their composition skills. Kindergarten boys and girls baked (and chased) the Gingerbread Man before they caught him! The country of Australia is providing second graders with wonderful literature explorations! Boyd Buchanan Elementary is a wonderful community of learners!
Monday, September 6, will be a STUDENT HOLIDAY! Please stop by the Elementary Library to learn all about Labor Day. Mrs. Henderson has a wonderful teaching display!
The first Friday of each month we will be collecting 25 cents to help support our child, Alonso Lindner, a resident of City of Children Orphanage in Ensenda, Mexico. This Friday, September 3rd, will be the first collection date. The money helps to pay part of his monthly support fee and extras like school supplies, clothes and Christmas and birthday presents. Alonso was born February 26, 2001. He has an older sister, Nubia, who also lives at the City of Children orphanage. You can see his picture under my name on the BBS web page. This summer we sent him a small package with a soccer ball, a Star Wars action figure, a red shirt (which is his favorite color) and dulce (candy) to share with his whole dorm room. We try to do this once a quarter to let him know how much his Boyd Buchanan family cares about him. Please remember to keep Alonso and all the orphaned children in your prayers. Muchas Gracias for your generous hearts, Senora Swinea
The Community Kitchen will be here on Friday to pick up over 1,000 water bottles! Thank you for opening your hearts to those in need in our city. Our “Service with a Purpose”e project for the month of September is called We CAN because we CARE! Students are asked to bring a can of food to donate to the Chattanooga Food Bank.
Parents, please remember to follow our Elementary dress and hair code guidelines. These standards are outlined on page 15 of your 2010-2011 Handbook. We appreciate your cooperation in these matters!
